Josh Inglis Set for LSG Debut After Wedding Break
Australia’s hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis is expected to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) camp ahead of their pivotal IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians on May 4. His arrival marks a turning point for a team struggling to find rhythm this season.
Marriage Before Mayhem
Inglis was unavailable for the first half of the IPL season as he had pre-planned his wedding for mid-April. He officially tied the knot on April 18 and has since taken a brief personal break. With the celebrations behind him, he is now set to travel to India and slot into the LSG squad — just in time for the business end of the league stage.
Big-Splash Signing Despite Absence
Despite not being available for the early matches, LSG secured Inglis for a notable INR 8.6 crore at the 2025 auction, recognizing his explosive potential. Last season, he amassed 278 runs for Punjab Kings at a blistering strike rate of 162.57, showcasing his ability to dominate bowling attacks in the middle and death overs.
His release from Punjab Kings ahead of the auction opened the door for LSG, who clearly see him as a long-term asset both with the bat and gloves.
How Will LSG Fit Him In?
The real question now is how LSG will adjust their playing XI to accommodate Inglis. Currently, the team fields a combination of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran as key overseas players. They haven’t consistently played a fourth overseas talent, though South African spinner George Linde has featured in two of the last three games.
One major factor could force a change: Nicholas Pooran’s ongoing slump. The West Indian star has managed only 51 runs in six innings at a dismally low strike rate of 80 — far below his usual explosive standards. Inglis’s form and firepower could see him replace Pooran if the team decides to shift gears.
Squad Changes and Struggles
The team has also seen fast bowler Anrich Nortje exit the camp last week, though the reason remains unconfirmed. Nortje played just one game this season — against Delhi Capitals on April 1 — where he returned figures of 0 for 39 in four overs. His departure has opened up another potential slot, though LSG may prioritize batting reinforcements over pace depth at this stage.
LSG’s Season on the Line
Lucknow Super Giants currently sit eighth in the ten-team points table with only two wins from six matches. Their upcoming fixture against Rajasthan Royals in Lucknow on April 22 is crucial to keep their playoff hopes alive.
While Inglis won’t feature in that game, his presence from May 4 onward could come at just the right time. He could potentially play in LSG’s final six league-stage matches, offering much-needed dynamism to a middle order that has often faltered under pressure.
What’s Next for LSG?
The return of a match-winning talent like Inglis could be the spark the franchise needs. With the playoff race heating up, every match — and every player — counts.
As the team fights to climb the table, all eyes will be on how coach Justin Langer and captain KL Rahul rejig the combination. One thing is certain: once Josh Inglis steps onto the field, LSG’s batting equation changes for the better.
Stay tuned for updates as the Super Giants look to turn their season around — with a newlywed warrior ready to make an impact.
