Sri Lanka Cricket Introduces Strict Bonus and Penalty Rules
With changes happening in Sri Lanka’s cricket administration, a major shift is also coming in the players’ contract system. Under the new plan, Sri Lankan cricketers will no longer get bonuses for beating teams like Bangladesh. Instead, if they lose, they could even face penalties. These stricter rules are being introduced by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Previously, players received bonuses for beating teams ranked between 1 and 9 in the ICC rankings. But now, bonuses will only be given if Sri Lanka wins a series against a top-four ranked team. Just winning a match won’t be enough anymore.
Stricter Bonus Structure
There is still a reward system in place, though. Beating top teams will bring in big bonuses, especially in away series. However, if Sri Lanka wins at home, the bonus will be smaller because of the home advantage. On the other hand, losing a series could result in fines for the players.
According to Sri Lankan media, this proposal will soon be presented to the players.
Bonus Structure (Simplified)
- Test Cricket (Away Series Wins):
- Beat No.1 team – $150,000
- Beat No.2 team – $100,000
- Beat No.3 team – $75,000
- Beat No.4 team – $60,000
- Test Cricket (Home Series Wins):
- Beat No.1 – $100,000
- Beat No.2 – $75,000
- Beat No.3 – $50,000
- Beat No.4 – $25,000
ODI Series Wins:
- Bonuses vary depending on ranking and home/away, with higher rewards for away wins
T20I Series Wins:
- Same bonus for both home and away, equal to ODI away-series rewards
Match Fees
Tests:
- Win – $15,000
- Draw – $10,000
- Loss – $7,500
ODIs:
- Win – $7,500
- Loss – $3,500
- No result – $3,000
T20Is:
- Win – $5,000
- Loss – $2,500
- No result – $2,000
So, players now not only need to win, they also need to avoid losses and even hope matches don’t get washed out.
Individual Rewards
SLC is also encouraging players with personal incentives:
- Reach No.1 in rankings – $25,000 bonus
- Reach positions 2-5 – $20,000 bonus
