Ambati Rayudu Appointed Head of Cricket Operations at Hyderabad Cricket Association
A New Chapter for Hyderabad Cricket
In a significant development for the cricketing landscape in Telangana, former Team India batter Ambati Rayudu has officially taken on the role of Head of Cricket Operations for the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). The appointment, which was confirmed on May 5, marks the beginning of a three-year term aimed at restructuring and revitalizing the state’s cricketing infrastructure.
Ambati Rayudu’s Vision for HCA
Rayudu, known for his grit and tactical acumen during his playing days, shared the news of his appointment via a social media post on X. He expressed his gratitude to Justice P. Naveen Rao (SMC), HCA Secretary M. Jeevan Reddy, and the apex council for entrusting him with this responsibility. According to Rayudu, the primary objective is to clean up existing administrative bottlenecks and foster an environment where local talent can thrive.
“I am very happy to announce that I have been appointed as the Head of cricketing operations for HCA. It is a great opportunity to clean up a few things, but I am more excited to see the immense cricketing talent in Hyderabad and Telangana flourish and produce more players to represent the country,” Rayudu stated.
Prioritizing the Player Experience
One of the core tenets of Rayudu’s philosophy is the strict separation of cricket and administration. He believes that the focus should remain firmly on the players, ensuring their welfare is prioritized above bureaucratic concerns. By streamlining operations and removing unnecessary administrative interference, Rayudu aims to transform the Hyderabad cricket team into a domestic powerhouse.
Key reforms on the horizon include:
- Player Contract System: Inspired by the successful model adopted by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), the HCA plans to implement a structured contract system to support players financially and professionally.
- Center of Excellence: Rayudu has proposed the establishment of a state-of-the-art center of excellence, drawing inspiration from the elite facilities seen in Bengaluru.
- Automation: To reduce human error and favoritism, administrative processes will be automated to ensure transparency and fairness.
Expanding the Grassroots Footprint
The HCA administration, led by Secretary M. Jeevan Reddy, is also aggressively pursuing a strategy to scout talent from remote and rural areas. Recognizing that the next generation of stars may not reside within the city limits of Hyderabad, the board is looking to expand its physical infrastructure significantly.
“Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar have new stadiums. Apart from these two, we also acquired a ground in Nizamabad. We are also in discussion for land acquisition in Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda. It should be finalised in the next two or three months,” Secretary M. Jeevan Reddy noted during a media interaction.
Building for the Future
The appointment of Ambati Rayudu is being viewed by many as a progressive step for the HCA. By bringing in a former player who understands the intricacies of the professional game, the board is signaling a shift toward a more modern, athlete-centric approach. With plans for land acquisition, improved infrastructure, and a modernized contract system, the future of cricket in the region appears to be on a promising trajectory.
As Rayudu assumes his role with immediate effect, the cricketing fraternity will be closely watching to see how these reforms translate into results on the field. The focus remains on identifying raw talent, providing them with world-class facilities, and ensuring that the pathway to the national team is as seamless and meritocratic as possible.
