Bangladesh Breaks Records in Historic Test Victory Against Pakistan

Bangladesh’s historic win over Pakistan in Mirpur came with plenty of remarkable records and milestones, both for the team and several individual players.

One of the biggest achievements was Bangladesh beating Pakistan in three consecutive Test matches. Before this, the Tigers had managed three straight Test wins only against Zimbabwe and Ireland. Their longest winning streak against a single opponent still remains four Tests against Zimbabwe between 2013 and 2014.

Individual Records

Nahid Rana created history with a sensational spell of 5 for 40, the best bowling figures of his young Test career, surpassing his previous best of 5 for 61 against West Indies in Kingston back in 2024.

The fast bowler also became the first Bangladesh pacer ever to take a five-wicket haul in the fourth innings of a Test match. Before this, Taskin Ahmed held the record among Bangladesh pacers with figures of 4 for 37 against Afghanistan in 2023.

Nahid’s performance is now also the best bowling figures by a Bangladesh pacer against Pakistan in Test cricket. The previous record belonged to Hasan Mahmud, who took 5 for 43 in Rawalpindi during the 2024 series.

Among Bangladesh pacers in winning Test matches, Nahid’s 5 for 40 stands as the second-best performance. Only Ebadot Hossain’s unforgettable 6 for 46 against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui in 2022 remains ahead.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto‘s Achievements

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also added his name to the record books, scoring more than 80 runs in both innings of a Test match for the third time. No other Bangladeshi batter has achieved that feat even twice.

Shanto has now scored the most runs by a Bangladesh captain in winning Test matches with 520 runs, moving past Mushfiqur Rahim’s previous tally of 458. The Bangladesh captain also came heartbreakingly close to another rare record, missing out on becoming only the fourth batter in Test history to register three twin centuries by just 13 runs.

Team Records

Bangladesh have now defeated Pakistan more times in Tests than most other teams. Only Zimbabwe, with nine defeats, and West Indies, with five, have lost more Tests to Bangladesh. Ireland, meanwhile, have lost all three Tests they have played against the Tigers.

Bangladesh’s fast bowlers picked up 10 wickets in the match overall. It was only the second time in Mirpur that Bangladesh pacers claimed 10 wickets in a Test. The first came against Afghanistan in 2023, when the pacers grabbed 14 wickets.
