Mumbai Indians Suffer 27-Run Defeat Against Rajasthan Royals: Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav React
IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals Outshine Mumbai Indians in Rain-Curtained Match
The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been an exciting and breathtaking tournament so far, and it has already entered its third matchweek. Last night, Rajasthan Royals (RR) hosted Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, in a match that was reduced to 11 overs due to rain. The Royals continued to showcase their brilliant form in the IPL as they beat MI by 27 runs.
The Match: A Dominant Performance by Rajasthan Royals
The match started nearly two and a half hours later than the scheduled time due to rain in the eastern part of India. Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first, but RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had other plans from the very start of the match. Jaiswal started the first over, smacking Deepak Chahar for 22 runs, and Vaibhav took over Jasprit Bumrah for a first-ball six and produced a 14-run over. The two flamboyant openers stitched a partnership of 80 runs in four overs, setting the tone for a dominant performance by the Royals.
RR scored 150/3 in their 11 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi being the top scorers. Coming out to chase, Mumbai Indians were never in the game as they kept losing wickets. Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford scored 25 runs each and were the joint highest run scorers for the five-time champions on the night. They finished off with the score of 123/9 in their 11 overs, suffering their second consecutive loss after the first match win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Reactions from the Mumbai Indians Camp
After the match, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya and vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav looked shattered inside the dressing room. In a video shared on X, Mumbai’s head coach Mahela Jayawardene said, We’ve played enough cricket to understand what happened today. As a franchise, as a team, as players — that’s not who we are. The margins are small. Those 24 runs could have come from anywhere four good balls or four big hits. That was the difference.
Later, Kieron Pollard said, inside the dressing room, Heads up, stay positive. Cricket games are never won easily. Let’s stay together, stay strong, and remain united.
Hardik Pandya at the post-match presentation said that his bowlers were not up to the task and also praised the way Vaibhav Sooryavanshi batted in the innings, believing that he is one of the future superstars for India and wished him luck.
Upcoming Match: Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Mumbai Indians will be up against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are also in excellent form, winning two out of their two games in the tournament so far. The match is scheduled on Sunday, April 12, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Will Mumbai Indians be able to bounce back from their consecutive losses, or will RCB continue their winning streak? Only time will tell.
