Blow for Proteas: David Miller and Gerald Coetzee Ruled Out of Pakistan Tour

Proteas Hit by Massive Injury Blow Ahead of Pakistan Tour

Disaster has struck the South African camp just days before their high-stakes tour of Pakistan. The Proteas are reeling following the news that explosive batter David Miller and pace sensation Gerald Coetzee have been officially ruled out of action due to injuries.

Miller, who was set to lead the charge as stand-in captain for the T20I series while Aiden Markram rests, has been sidelined after scans on Wednesday confirmed a grade-1 right hamstring strain sustained during training. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the veteran is now beginning a phased rehabilitation program.

Ferreira Takes the Reins

In a major leadership shuffle, allrounder Donovan Ferreira will step up to captain the side for the three-match T20I series, which kicks off on October 28 in Rawalpindi. Ferreira, who recently led the Proteas in a tough outing against Namibia, now faces the ultimate test of his leadership on subcontinental soil.

Coetzee and Maphaka Sidelined

The bad news doesn’t stop there for the tourists. Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee is out for the entire white-ball leg of the tour. The 25-year-old sustained a pectoral muscle injury during the T20I clash against Namibia, where he was forced off the field after bowling just 1.3 overs. Furthermore, left-arm seamer Kwena Maphaka remains unavailable due to a hamstring strain picked up in early October.

Squad Replacements and Outlook

To bolster the ranks, South Africa has called up Matthew Breetzke and the uncapped Tony de Zorzi for the T20I series. Meanwhile, speedster Ottneil Baartman has been drafted into the ODI squad to replace the injured Coetzee. The ODI series is set to commence on November 4 in Faisalabad, with Breetzke leading the charge as captain.
