Tamim Iqbal Hints at Participating in BCB Election

The National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the previous board of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which was led by Aminul Islam Bulbul. The decision came after multiple allegations of irregularities in the election process. A new 11-member ad-hoc committee has now been formed, with former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal appointed as chairman.

The other members of the committee are Mirza Yasser Abbas, Fahim Sinha, Rafiqul Islam, Salman Ispahani, Tanjl Chowdhury, Athar Ali Khan, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Israfil Khasru, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, and Rashna Imam. Among them, Fahim Sinha had previously served as a director under former presidents Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Hassan Papon, and he was also part of Bulbul’s board during its first four months.

Tamim will lead the committee, whose main responsibility is to arrange a fresh election within 90 days. The question now is whether Tamim or other members of the ad-hoc committee will contest in the upcoming BCB election. According to the country’s sports regulations, there is no restriction preventing them from taking part.

Speaking at his first press conference as chairman, Tamim confirmed that elections will definitely be held and encouraged everyone to participate. He said, “Of course we will hold the election. It depends on individuals. I may want to contest, Babubhai may want to contest, someone else may not. But when a fair election is held, I would request everyone to take part. Cricketers, organizers – everyone should be able to participate. Our goal is to create an environment where a transparent election can take place.”
