In this years Pakistan Super League (PSL), Peshawar Zalmi introduced two exciting talents from Bangladesh fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam. What began as a short-term contract quickly turned into a heartfelt cricketing relationship, as both players left a lasting impact not just with their performances, but with their passion for the team and its culture.
A Dynamic Bowling Duo Emerges
Right from the outset, Shoriful Islam proved to be a reliable force with the new ball. Under the leadership of Babar Azam, he became a go-to option in the powerplay, delivering tight lines and consistent pressure. His ability to swing the ball and maintain accuracy made him a vital cog in Zalmis bowling attack.
Meanwhile, Nahid Rana brought sheer pace and aggression to the middle overs. His raw speed troubled batters and often shifted the momentum in Zalmis favor. Together, the two Bangladeshi pacers formed a complementary pair that earned appreciation from fans, commentators, and teammates alike.
Going the Extra Day for Glory
Such was their value to the squad that Peshawar Zalmi formally requested an additional one-day extension of their No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The BCB granted the approval, allowing both players to feature in the crucial April 13 match before returning home.
This gesture highlighted not only their contribution on the field but also the regard in which they were held within the camp. Their presence in that final game was more than just tactical it was symbolic of their integration into the Zalmi family.
Came as a Player, Leaving as a Zalmi
In a touching social media video shared by Peshawar Zalmi, both players reflected on their experience with genuine emotion.
Shoriful Islam expressed, Alhamdulillah, I had a great time here with the Zalmi family. I really enjoyed every moment. Everyone here is very kind. I liked the coaching staff and the team culture a lot. I learned new things and enjoyed both training and matches. We even had dinner with the team owner hes a wonderful person, very friendly.
He concluded with a heartfelt message: I came as a player, but Im leaving as a Zalmi. If possible, I would love to come back again. Please keep supporting us. I hope we can win the trophy, InshaAllah.
A Bond Beyond the Boundary
Nahid Rana echoed similar sentiments: Alhamdulillah, the PSL is a high-quality tournament. There are top-class batters, bowlers, and wickets here. I really enjoyed my time with the team, both in training and on the field. Everything here was great.
He also revealed a deep emotional connection: Ive become emotionally connected with this team. There are many Zalmi fans in Pakistan, and I just want to say keep supporting the team the way you always have.
These words werent just polite farewells. They were authentic reflections of two cricketers who found more than just competition in Pakistan they found belonging.
What Lies Ahead
Now back in Bangladesh, both pacers are set to represent their country in the upcoming series against New Zealand. Their time in the PSL has clearly bolstered their confidence, technique, and understanding of high-pressure cricket.
As they gear up for international action, one thing is certain a piece of their hearts remains in Peshawar, draped in the green and yellow of Zalmi.
For fans and franchises alike, the story of Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam is a reminder that cricket is more than stats and wickets. Sometimes, its about becoming part of something bigger a family, a legacy, a color.
Zalmi may have signed them for their pace, but theyll remember them for their heart.
