Rubel Hossain Retires: A Tribute to Bangladesh Cricket Legend
Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain has officially called time on his international career, bringing an end to a remarkable 12-year journey with the national team.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a special tribute to honor his contribution to Bangladesh cricket, which will take place at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur ahead of the second ODI on April 20.
A Glorious Career
Rubel made his international debut in 2009 and went on to represent Bangladesh in all three formats of the game. His impressive career statistics include 27 Tests with 36 wickets, 104 ODIs with 129 wickets, and 28 T20Is with 28 wickets.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Rubel announced his retirement, stating, “I am pacer Rubel Hossain. I have played 27 Tests, 104 ODIs, and 28 T20Is for Bangladesh. The national team has always been my passion. But there comes a time when you have to say goodbye. With that in mind, I am stepping away from international cricket. I do wish to continue playing in domestic competitions. I want to thank my family, friends, media, and fans. I hope you will continue to support me like always. Much love to everyone.”
Memorable Moments
Rubel has been part of many memorable wins for Bangladesh, including his iconic performance in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup match against England. He also played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s historic series win over New Zealand in 2013, which popularized the term “Banglawash.”
The formal honor will be a fitting tribute to Rubel’s dedication and passion for Bangladesh cricket. As he begins a new chapter in his career, focusing on domestic competitions, the cricket community will undoubtedly continue to support him.
