Sarfaraz Ahmed Named as Pakistan Test Head Coach for Bangladesh Series

Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was appointed head coach of Pakistan’s two-match Test series in Bangladesh next month by the Sports Confederation of Pakistan (PCB) on Saturday.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, who recently retired from playing and led Pakistan’s under-19 team to the Asia Cup title as mentor manager, has been appointed head coach of the Pakistani men’s Test team for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Pakistan will play a two-match Test series there next month. Former Test players Asad Shafiq and Umar Gul have been appointed as batting and bowling coaches, respectively.

Series Schedule

The first of the two matches part of the ICC World Test Championship will be played from May 8-12 at the Sher-i-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, while the second Test will be played from May 16-20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Shan Masood will lead the team in this series, which is part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle. The squad includes four players without international experience: Abdullah Fazal, Amad Butt, Azan Awais and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori.

Team Preparation

Five players from the squad are currently participating in a Test cricket training camp in Lahore. These include Azan Awais, Imam-ul-Haq, Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, Noman Ali and Sajid Khan. The first Test will take place in Dhaka from May 8–12, and the second in Sylhet from May 16–20.

The team will meet in Karachi on April 27 for a training camp that will last until May 1, before traveling to Bangladesh on May 2. Players participating in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) will join the training camp after their teams’ seasons conclude, while the finalists will arrive on May 3 after the tournament ends.
