In a truly special and eye-catching event, the dream trophy of the Bangla Hundred League (BHL) was officially unveiled in Sydney, set against the stunning backdrop of the iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Making the moment even more memorable was former Bangladesh national team star Imrul Kayes, who is also the brand ambassador of the tournament.
A New Milestone for Bangladeshi Cricket
Organizers believe this marks a new milestone for cricket within the Bangladeshi diaspora. For the first time, a trophy of a Bangladeshi community cricket tournament in Australia has been unveiled at such a globally recognized location.
The event began with the unveiling of team jerseys, with all six team captains present. Several respected members of the expatriate community also attended, including Mohammad Ali Sikder, owner of Property One, Selim Reza, director of UGS, and George Bousmara, president of the Australia Arab Business Council.
Vision for the Future
Those involved in the ceremony shared their vision of taking the tournament to a bigger stage in the future, aiming for international standards.
Mohammad Ali Sikder expressed his full support for promoting sports initiatives within the Bangladeshi community. Meanwhile, Imrul Kayes said he is excited to be part of such a unique arrangement and hinted that next season will be even more competitive and attractive.
Tournament director Atikur Rahman Sajib explained that after a successful auction held last month in Lakemba, Sydney, they wanted to do something different to raise the profile of the event. That idea led to this unique trophy unveiling beside two of Sydney’s most famous landmarks—something they hope to continue in the future.
On-Field Action Begins
The on-field action begins this Sunday. A total of 13 exciting matches are scheduled, with the final expected to take place on May 16. There is already a strong sense of excitement and energy among the Bangladeshi community as they look forward to the tournament.
