Bangladesh completed the ODI series in style, defeating New Zealand by 55 runs in the third and final match to clinch a 2-1 series victory.

At the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, Bangladesh had a precarious start. Opener Saif Hasan was dismissed for a duck in the first over, and Tanzid Hasan Tamim followed soon after, scoring just 1. At 9 for 2, the situation looked tense early on.

But then came a crucial partnership between Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto. They steadied the innings with sensible batting. Soumya got a start but couldn’t go big, scoring 18 off 28 balls.

After his departure, Litton Das joined Shanto, and the pair really took control. Both reached their fifties, and Shanto went on to complete a fine century. Litton played a classy knock of 76 off 91 balls before getting out when the team total was 192. Shanto followed later after scoring a brilliant 105 from 119 balls, anchoring the innings beautifully.

Towards the end, Towhid Hridoy added a useful 33 off 29 balls, while captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with 22. Bangladesh finished with a competitive 265 for 8 in 50 overs.

For New Zealand, Will O’Rourke picked up 3 wickets, while Ben Lister and Jaden Lennox took two each.

Chasing 266, New Zealand never really settled. Henry Nicholls fell early for 4. Will Young showed some promise but was dismissed for 19 by the pace of Nahid Rana. Before that, Mustafizur Rahman had already struck to remove Nicholls. Captain Tom Latham had a disappointing outing again, scoring just 5.

Nick Kelly fought hard and scored 59, but once he fell, New Zealand’s hopes faded. Dean Foxcroft tried to keep the fight alive with 75 off 72 balls, but he lacked support from the other end. Wickets kept falling, and Bangladesh’s BBL-style aggression in the field made it difficult for the Kiwis to stage a comeback.

Mustafizur Rahman was the star of the show with the ball, picking up 5 wickets for 41 runs in his 10 overs. His fifer helped Bangladesh restrict New Zealand to 210 for 9 in 50 overs, securing a 55-run victory and the series 2-1.

This win will be a big confidence booster for Bangladesh as they look to build on their recent successes. The team will be eager to carry this momentum forward in their upcoming matches.
