A New Spin on Success: Punjab Kings Appoint Sairaj Bahutule
The Punjab Kings are shaking things up! In a move that promises to add tactical brilliance to their bowling attack, the franchise has officially announced the appointment of former India legspinner Sairaj Bahutule as their new spin bowling coach for the 2026 IPL season.
Bahutule steps into the role previously held by Sunil Joshi, who served the franchise from 2023 to 2025. Joshi is set to embark on a new chapter, taking his expertise to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Aligning with a Vision for Glory
PBKS CEO Satish Menon expressed immense confidence in the new recruit, stating, “Sairaj’s deep understanding of the game, particularly his extensive experience in grooming domestic bowlers and managing strategy, will be invaluable to our side. His expertise aligns perfectly with our vision of building a strong and cohesive bowling unit for the season ahead.”
Bahutule joins a star-studded backroom lineup featuring:
- Head Coach: Ricky Ponting
- Assistant Coach: Brad Haddin
- Fast Bowling Coach: James Hopes
- Assistant Bowling Coach: Trevor Gonsalves
Building on Potential
For Bahutule, the move represents an exciting new challenge. “I’m really excited to join Punjab Kings as a spin bowling coach for the upcoming IPL season,” he remarked. “This is a team that plays a different brand of cricket, and I can see the potential is massive. They have a bunch of talented players, and I’m looking forward to working with them to refine their skills and help them reach new heights.”
Bahutule brings a wealth of experience, having served as the spin bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals during the 2025 IPL season, as well as a previous stint with the franchise from 2018 to 2021. His resume also includes significant time at the National Cricket Academy and supporting India A assignments.
The Punjab Kings are coming off a heart-stopping 2025 campaign where they finished as runners-up, falling just six runs short against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final after a dominant run at the top of the league table. With Bahutule now on board, the Kings are clearly signaling their intent to go one step further in 2026!
