The playoffs are set to ignite on May 26, culminating in the grand spectacle of the IPL 2026 Final on May 31. According to the official release, the playoff matches will be distributed across the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, and the sprawling Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Although Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar attempted to mediate by allocating three tickets per legislator, the situation remained volatile. Home Minister G. Parameshwara further muddied the waters by imposing strict, non-transferable rules, creating an environment that the BCCI likely viewed as a potential security and logistical nightmare.

In a statement reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI explained, “Bengaluru was originally designated to host the Final. However, owing to certain requirements from the local association and authorities that were beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols, the venue has been shifted and reassigned.”

The Narendra Modi Stadium boasts a massive capacity of 132,000 spectators, vastly outstripping the 40,000-capacity of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. With the memory of the chaotic stampede at Chinnaswamy during the 2025 season still fresh, the BCCI is clearly opting for the superior infrastructure and crowd management capabilities of the Ahmedabad venue to ensure a smooth, high-revenue event.
