Arjun Tendulkar Returns to Mumbai Roots for T20 League Auction

The cricketing world is once again focusing its attention on Arjun Tendulkar. The seam-bowling all-rounder is all set to test his fortunes in the upcoming players’ auction for the highly anticipated Mumbai T20 League. While Arjun has been representing Goa in domestic cricket to secure more consistent playing opportunities, he remains eligible to enter the auction pool for the regional franchise league.

This move comes at a pivotal moment in the 26-year-old’s career. Currently, Arjun is associated with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the IPL 2026 season. His transition to the Lucknow-based franchise was a strategic move made ahead of the season, following a stint with the Mumbai Indians (MI) where he struggled to find regular game time. Despite the shift in his IPL base, Arjun is yet to make his official debut for the Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing campaign.

Understanding the Eligibility: The ‘Cooling-Off’ Period Debate

One of the most discussed aspects of Arjun’s entry into the auction is the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) mandates regarding player eligibility. According to the standard rules, any player who is originally from Mumbai but has represented a different state organization is required to undergo a one-year “cooling-off” period before they can submit their name for the franchise league auction.

However, in the case of Arjun Tendulkar, this rule does not apply. The reason lies in the specific nature of the tournaments he participated in while representing Goa. Because Arjun did not participate in the specific T20 leagues organized by the Goa Cricket Association, the restrictive cooling-off period is not triggered.

To clarify this position, MCA secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar spoke to the media, highlighting the adherence to BCCI guidelines. He stated, “To maintain focus and prevent excessive exertion, each player is permitted to participate in only one officially recognised cricket league, excluding the Indian Premier League (IPL), during 12 months commencing from the conclusion of the tournament in which they last participated.”

Khanvilkar further explained that since Arjun did not participate in the T20 league of his respective state team (Goa), he is fully eligible to participate in the Mumbai T20 League under existing BCCI and MCA rules.

Other Notable Returns and Auction Details

Arjun is not the only player returning to the Mumbai fold. Siddharth Adhatrao, who previously represented Pondicherry in domestic cricket, has also been granted permission to enter the upcoming auction. Adhatrao has expressed his enthusiasm about returning to his roots, stating his desire to enjoy Mumbai cricket across all formats, including First-Class, the T20 Mumbai league, and the traditional maidan cricket.

The players’ auction is scheduled to take place on May 2, 2026. For Arjun Tendulkar, who is a recognized Ranji Trophy player, the auction will see him enter with a highest base price of INR 5 lakh.

A Blockbuster Fourth Season Awaits

The fourth season of this regional franchise league is shaping up to be a blockbuster event. The competition will feature a star-studded lineup of Indian cricket’s elite, including:

    n

  • Suryakumar Yadav (Triumph Knights)
  • Shreyas Iyer (SoBo Mumbai Falcons)
  • Shivam Dube (ARCS Andheri)
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal (Bandra Blasters)
  • Sarfaraz Khan (Aakash Tigers)

The stakes are high as teams look to reclaim the glory of the previous season. In the last edition, the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals emerged victorious, claiming the crown after a hard-fought battle against the Shreyas Iyer-led Mumbai Falcons at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

For Arjun Tendulkar, the Mumbai T20 League represents more than just a tournament; it is an opportunity to showcase his growth as a bowler-batter in front of his home crowd and prove his readiness for the highest levels of the game.
