[CRK] BCL Round-Up: Rony and Shibli Shine as Mithun Hits Fifty in Domestic Showdown
[CRK]
In the heart of Sylhet, domestic cricket took center stage as the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) kicked off with flair, grit, and some compelling individual performances. Two matches, two competitive pitches, and a strong showing from seasoned and emerging names alike set the tone for what promises to be an intense campaign.
Abu Hider Rony Nears Century as Middle Zone Builds Strong Foundation
At the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Middle Zone sent down a strong marker against East Zone after being asked to bat first. Their innings was built on a foundation of patience and precision, with opener Shadman Islam setting the tempo with a composed 56 off 114 balls.
However, the undisputed highlight of the day was Abu Hider Rony, who once again showcased his class by remaining unbeaten on 90 off just 110 deliveries. With his sights set firmly on his third career century, Rony blended aggression with discipline, steering his side to a commanding 272 for 6 at stumps.
Shibli’s Grit Anchors 147-Run Stand
He wasn’t alone in holding the fort. Ashiqur Rahman Shibli delivered a masterclass in resilience, finishing the day on an unbeaten 75 from 151 balls. Together, the duo stitched together a decisive 147-run partnership that effectively neutralized East Zone’s bowling attack.
Even Jishan Alam, known for his explosive style, surprised everyone by adopting a cautious approach, scoring just 14 off 80 balls and getting off the mark only on his 52nd delivery. His patience, though unusual, played a role in maintaining scoreboard pressure at the other end.
For East Zone, Ebadot Hossain and Tofael Ahmed each claimed two wickets, but were unable to break through the late surge led by Rony and Shibli.
Mithun Shines Amid Modest Contributions in South Zone’s 314
At the Sylhet Academy Ground, South Zone posted a robust total of 314 all out. While the scoreline looks strong, the innings was surprisingly reliant on a single half-century — Mohammad Mithun’s 53 off 73 balls.
Mithun’s knock was laced with timing and intent, providing much-needed momentum during the middle overs. Iftakhar Hossain Ifti came close to joining him in a fifty partnership, scoring 49, while Moin Khan added a valuable 36 down the order to prevent a late collapse.
North Zone Bowlers Share the Load
North Zone’s bowling attack shared the spoils evenly. Taijul Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun each picked up three wickets, applying consistent pressure throughout the innings. Sunzamul Islam contributed with two dismissals, helping wrap up the tail.
In response, North Zone ended the day at 16 for 0, with openers seeing off the new ball under fading light.
What’s Next in the BCL?
With Rony on the cusp of a century and Mithun proving his leadership with the bat, the stage is set for day two drama. Can Rony convert? Will Shibli carry on? And will North Zone build on their solid start or face a batting collapse?
The BCL continues to deliver high-quality domestic cricket, offering a platform for players to stake claims for national selection. As the season unfolds, performances like these could shape Bangladesh’s future on the international stage.
