Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has said that the board tried its best to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, but in the end they had to follow the decision of the interim government. He also spoke about the tension with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the recent issues surrounding the situation.
Key Decision: The board’s decision not to participate in the tournament was due to the interim government’s call.

After Mustafizur Rahman was left out of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bangladesh raised concerns about security and expressed reluctance to travel to India for the World Cup. However, the ICC did not respond positively to Bangladesh’s request. At that time, the interim government decided not to send the team to India.
When asked whether missing the World Cup was a mistake, Bulbul told reporters, “I would rather not say much about that. But we tried very hard. At the end of the day, I am also a cricketer.”
He also mentioned that relations with the ICC had become strained after Bangladesh did not take part in the tournament. According to him, the matter has now been resolved. “Alhamdulillah, everything is settled now. Many things happened in between, and not all of them came out in the media. The government made the decision then, and I had to accept it. The current government is in charge now, and we must follow their decisions as well. From the beginning, we have said that we work under the government,” he explained.
There is also an investigation into the decision not to play in the World Cup. Bulbul said he learned about it through the media and added that the government has every right to investigate. He claimed that Bangladesh had already prepared a squad for the tournament. “As far as I know, the squad was ready. Preparations were in place, including where we would play. But we had to respect the government’s decision,” he said.
The former national captain also dismissed concerns about instability within the current board. He said he does not see any crisis. “Everything is running normally. The national team is playing, and the women’s team is preparing for a series against Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team. Overall, operations are continuing as usual. This is an elected committee, and the board has been functioning for five and a half months. We do not expect such questions,” he added.
What’s Next?
Now that the situation has been resolved, the BCB is focusing on the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The team is preparing well, and the fans are eagerly waiting for the matches. The BCB has also announced plans to strengthen the national team and improve its performance in international tournaments.
As the BCB moves forward, it is clear that the board will continue to work under the government’s guidance. The current administration has shown a commitment to transparency and accountability, and the fans are hoping that this will lead to better results on the field.
The investigation into the World Cup decision is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what conclusions will be drawn. However, for now, the BCB is focused on the present and looking forward to a brighter future for Bangladesh cricket.
