Harry Moore Faces Another Season on the Sidelines
Derbyshire’s promising young fast bowler, Harry Moore, has been dealt a significant setback in his career as he has been ruled out of a second successive English season due to a recurring back stress fracture.
Moore, who turns 19 on Sunday, initially suffered the injury in a pre-season friendly against SACA last March, which led to him missing the entire 2025 summer. The recurrence of this injury is a substantial blow to his ambitions, as he was becoming a regular for England Under-19s and had shown great promise in his List A debut for Derbyshire as a 16-year-old.
A Career Put on Hold
Derbyshire announced on Wednesday that Moore will miss another season, stating, “The injury is a re-occurrence of the one which kept Moore out for the entire 2025 season.” The club also mentioned that he will work closely with their medical team to ensure a proper recovery, with the aim of being available for selection in 2027.
Standing at 6ft 7in, Moore is not only a talented fast bowler but also has aspirations to become an all-rounder. His performance in the Metro Bank Cup, where he took 12 wickets in 10 appearances, and his six wickets in three County Championship matches at the end of the 2024 season, underscore his potential.
A Loss for England and the Hundred
Moore’s injury also means he would have likely been part of the England squad that competed in the recent Under-19s World Cup, where they lost to India in the final. Additionally, he was slated to play for Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred last summer, further highlighting the opportunities he has missed due to his injury.
As Moore begins his recovery process, cricket fans will be hoping for his swift return to the pitch, where he can continue to develop his skills and fulfill the promise he has shown at such a young age.
