Sometimes he takes the pressure off me, and sometimes I get away quickly. Watching him play—he gets shots that I could only have in my wildest dreams.”

Since joining the Mumbai Indians in 2025, the pair has been a formidable force, aggregating 825 runs together in 18 innings, featuring three century stands and two fifty partnerships. I really enjoy the value for shots here; the ball flies, and I’ve adapted my game to make the most of this home venue.”

The journey to the top of the batting order hasn’t been without its psychological hurdles. Competing with a player of Quinton de Kock’s caliber meant that every appearance came with immense pressure. “It was tricky to manage mentally,” Rickelton admitted. “You’re putting extra pressure on yourself because you know a world-class player is sitting on the bench. But we are very supportive of each other. Quinny has been crucial in tweaking my batting and keeping me focused throughout the tournament.”

As the IPL trends toward higher totals and aggressive powerplay batting, Rickelton feels his role in the MI lineup is clearer than ever. Following the philosophy of building a solid foundation to allow the team’s deep middle-order to flourish, he believes the strategy is working. “If we win the powerplay and set the platform, the class that we have lined up from three down to nine makes us incredibly dangerous,” he explained. With 931 runs in 21 T20 matches this year at a strike rate of 171.13, Rickelton is not just a participant in the IPL’s high-scoring revolution—he is one of its primary architects.
