Saad Masood Names Nahid Rana as Toughest Bowler He’s Ever Faced
“He was different. Intense. Unrelenting.” That’s how Pakistan’s young all-rounder Saad Masood describes his brief but unforgettable encounter with Bangladesh’s rising pace sensation, Nahid Rana.
A Five-Ball Test of Grit
Despite having faced bowlers in international cricket, domestic circuits, and the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Masood insists that none have challenged him quite like Nahid Rana. The 21-year-old batter faced just five deliveries from the Bangladeshi pacer during his ODI debut on March 15 in Mirpur — but those moments left a deep impression.
“Facing Nahid Rana was a completely different experience,” Masood revealed in a recent interview with PakPassion. “His raw pace and bounce brought a level of intensity that you don’t usually see. He is very different from other fast bowlers.”
Debut Under Pressure
Masood’s maiden ODI appearance came in a high-stakes series-decider against Bangladesh. Walking in under pressure, he forged a solid partnership with Salman Ali Agha, scoring 38 runs off 44 balls before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman. Despite his efforts, Pakistan fell short by 11 runs, losing the match and the series.
The weight of that moment still lingers. Masood admits his dismissal may have shifted the momentum.
“I feel like my wicket played a role in us losing the game,” he said, showing a maturity beyond his years. “It still bothers me. I couldn’t perform to my full potential. I tried, but I made mistakes, and that cost us the series. Still, I had a good partnership with Agha bhai, and I’m proud of that.”
A Dream Realized, With Room to Grow
For Masood, the debut was bittersweet. While the result was disappointing, the moment of wearing the green cap remained a lifelong dream fulfilled.
“Ever since I started playing cricket, I had only one dream — to get my Pakistan debut cap. It was a huge moment for me and my family,” he shared with palpable sincerity.
As a leg-spinning all-rounder, Masood brings balance to the side, and his performance in high-pressure situations — even in defeat — has drawn attention. Currently playing for Rawalpindi in the PSL, he’s gaining valuable experience across formats.
Nahid Rana: A Force to Reckon With
The praise for Nahid Rana is significant, especially coming from a batter early in his international journey. Rana’s ability to unsettle even technically sound players with sheer pace and steep bounce highlights his growing reputation as one of Bangladesh’s most dangerous fast bowlers.
Masood’s experience underscores a growing trend: opposition batters are taking notice. Five balls may seem fleeting, but against a bowler like Nahid, it’s enough to leave a lasting mental imprint.
Looking Ahead
For Saad Masood, the journey has just begun. With a debut behind him and lessons etched in memory, he’s focused on growth, redemption, and delivering when it matters most.
“I know I can do better,” he said. “This is only the start.”
As he continues to develop in the PSL and beyond, one thing is clear: if Nahid Rana was the toughest challenge so far, Masood is already preparing for what comes next.
