Shahadat Hossain Century Leads Gulshan to Dominant DPL Win
A Commanding Display at Bashundhara
In a high-stakes encounter during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), Gulshan Cricket Club showcased their dominance at the Bashundhara Sports Complex. Facing off against Agrani Bank Cricket Club, the Gulshan side delivered a masterclass in batting and disciplined bowling to secure a comprehensive 60-run victory under the DLS method, despite the persistent threat of rain.
The Foundation of a Massive Total
Gulshan’s innings began with a mix of optimism and early challenges. Openers Moinul Islam and Farzan Ahmed provided a decent foundation, stitching together 43 runs before the dismissal of Moinul, who looked in fine touch with a brisk 36 off 39 deliveries. Following the early exit of Bishal Chowdhury, the momentum shifted entirely in favor of Gulshan thanks to a phenomenal partnership.
Shahadat Hossain Sobuj and Shahriar Sakib anchored the innings, putting together a monumental 187-run stand that effectively dismantled the Agrani Bank bowling attack. Their middle-order masterclass pushed Gulshan into a position of absolute control.
Shahadat Hossain’s Batting Brilliance
The centerpiece of the match was undoubtedly the performance of Shahadat Hossain. Playing with supreme confidence, Shahadat orchestrated his innings to perfection, racing to a superb century. By the time he was finished, he had accumulated 132 runs from just 121 balls, featuring a stunning array of 17 boundaries and a towering six. His ability to find gaps and rotate the strike kept the scoreboard ticking at a healthy rate throughout the innings.
Complementing him, Shahriar Sakib proved to be the perfect foil. Sakib’s composed 75 off 94 balls was instrumental in building the total, providing the stability needed for Shahadat to play freely. Although Sakib was eventually dismissed via a run-out, his contribution of four boundaries and two sixes was pivotal in helping Gulshan reach a formidable total of 301 for 5.
A Rain-Affected Chase
As has been the recurring theme in this season’s DPL, rain made an unwelcome appearance, disrupting the natural flow of the game. Following the interruption, the match officials adjusted the target for Agrani Bank, setting a revised goal of 193 runs in 26 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
Agrani Bank’s Struggle Against a Disciplined Attack
Chasing a revised target, Agrani Bank needed a brisk start. Mahfijul Islam Robin provided exactly that, playing with intent and anchoring the chase from one end. With support from Tawfique Khan Tushar, who contributed 20 runs, Agrani Bank attempted to keep pace with the required run rate.
However, the middle order failed to deliver when the pressure mounted. Despite the presence of experienced campaigners like Tofael Ahmed, Marshall Ayub, and Nasir Hossain, the batting lineup crumbled against a disciplined Gulshan bowling attack. Robin’s fighting knock of 57 off 53 balls, which included nine boundaries, was the only notable resistance in a largely one-sided chase.
Clinical Bowling Seals the Win
The Gulshan bowlers were relentless throughout the second half of the game. Farhad Reza, Nayeem Hossain, and Abdur Rahim were the standout performers, each claiming three wickets apiece. Their ability to take wickets at regular intervals ensured that Agrani Bank never established a consistent rhythm. Ultimately, Agrani Bank was bowled out for 132 in 24.1 overs, handing Gulshan a well-deserved victory. This win marks a significant boost for Gulshan in the DPL standings, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in this tournament.
