Khaleel Ahmed Ruled Out of IPL 2026 with Quadricep Injury
Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a significant setback ahead of the business end of IPL 2026, as left-arm speedster Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a right quadricep injury. The club confirmed the news in an official statement, revealing that the recovery timeline exceeds 12 weeks—effectively ending his campaign.
Injury Occurs Mid-Over Against KKR
The injury occurred during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai on April 14. Khaleel, who had been building momentum, limped off the field just five balls into his final over. Rookies had to step up on the spot—Gurjapneet Singh completed the over and may now be called upon to take on a larger role in the absence of the experienced pacer.
Compounding Problems for CSK
Khaleel’s absence deepens an already concerning injury list for the four-time champions. MS Dhoni remains on the sidelines recovering from a calf strain. While he has been seen participating in light training sessions with the squad, he is yet to resume full batting practice and is restricted to throwdowns. Initially expected to miss just the first two weeks, Dhoni’s rehab has stretched further.
Adding to the bowling woes, Nathan Ellis was ruled out before the season began. His replacement, Spencer Johnson, is also injured and has not yet joined the team.
Possible Replacements Emerge
With multiple fast bowlers out, CSK are evaluating domestic options to fill the void. Two Maharashtra-based pacers are in contention:
- Mukesh Choudhary – A left-arm quick, offering a like-for-like replacement for Khaleel.
- Ramakrishna Ghosh – A right-arm seamer with notable all-round ability.
Rising Star Ramakrishna Ghosh Shines Domestically
Ghosh burst onto the scene during the 2025-26 domestic season and delivered standout performances for Maharashtra. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he recorded the best-ever List A figures for his state—7 for 42 against Himachal Pradesh in Jaipur. But it wasn’t just his bowling: in a match against Mumbai, Ghosh smashed an explosive 64 not out off just 27 balls, underlining his potential as a match-winner with both bat and ball.
While the franchise has not yet announced a replacement, Ghosh’s recent form makes him a strong candidate to step into the CSK setup, even if only as a backup initially.
Challenging Road Ahead
With just two wins from five matches, CSK’s campaign has been inconsistent. The team now faces a crucial clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad this Saturday. Without key players like Dhoni, Khaleel, and Ellis, the onus will be on the remaining core—Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, and Maheesh Theekshana—to stabilize the ship and guide the franchise back into playoff contention.
While injuries are an inevitable part of the grueling IPL season, the timing couldn’t be worse for CSK. How they adapt—especially in the bowling department—could define their fate in IPL 2026.
