San Francisco Unicorns Join Global Super League
The Global Super League (GSL) has announced the completion of its lineup for the upcoming season with the addition of the San Francisco Unicorns from Major League Cricket (MLC). This marks the first time a team from MLC will participate in the GSL, which is set to kick off on July 23 in Guyana.
Tournament Details
The GSL will run from July 23 to August 1, placing it in direct competition with The Hundred. However, the tournament schedule has been carefully planned to fit between the Major League Cricket and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) seasons.
The San Francisco Unicorns will join a talented lineup of teams, including the Lahore Qalandars from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Guyana Amazon Warriors from the CPL, the Desert Vipers from the ILT20, and the Perth Scorchers from the Big Bash League (BBL).
Team Participation
The Lahore Qalandars, who are three-time PSL champions, will return to the GSL after last participating in the inaugural season. They finished fourth in the 2024 edition of the tournament. The team’s owner, Sameen Rana, expressed his excitement about participating in the tournament, stating, “The inaugural edition was a fantastic platform for high-quality cricket and meaningful global engagement, and we are proud to once again represent Pakistan on this stage.”
The Guyana Amazon Warriors, who won the 2025 edition of the GSL, will become the only team to have participated in all three seasons of the tournament. The Perth Scorchers, who are the current BBL champions, will have Simon Katich deputize for Adam Voges, who will be unavailable due to prior commitments as the assistant coach of the Trent Rockets in The Hundred.
Reaction from GSL Chairman
GSL Chairman Sir Clive Lloyd welcomed the San Francisco Unicorns to the tournament, stating, “We are delighted to have the San Francisco Unicorns join the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League. Their inclusion reflects the growing global footprint of the game and the strength of franchise cricket in the United States. We look forward to seeing them compete and contribute to what promises to be an outstanding tournament.”
Conclusion
The addition of the San Francisco Unicorns to the Global Super League lineup promises to bring an exciting new dimension to the tournament. With a talented array of teams and a schedule that fits perfectly between other major cricket tournaments, the GSL is set to be an unforgettable event for cricket fans around the world.
